Immigrant Women Caucus

Mission

The mission of the immigrant Women Advisory council is to use our strong voice to represent battered immigrant women and their children. And to create awareness and sensitivity to issues faced by this unrepresented population.

5 year Long Range Plan

The mission of the Immigrant Women Advisory Council is to focus on ways that we will be better able to meet the needs of the women that we represent and serve. The three goals that we have set for ourselves include: Policy Advocacy, Increase Membership, and hosting an Annual Advocate Conference. The IWAC has developed a 5 year plan to accomplish our goals.

Policy Advocacy

As a council, we will educate the legislature on issues facing battered immigrant women and ensure that they are represented at the local, state and national level. As a council, we will participate annually in the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) Lobby Day. Annual trainings will be provided for council members to educate and update members on the legislative process and the current issues being discussed in the legislature.

Increase Membership

As a council, we will work to bring together advocates working with immigrant women in domestic violence shelters and projects throughout the state.

In addition, it is our goal that in the next 5 years we will increase our membership from 7 active members in 2002 to 20 members by 2007.

IWAC is open to everyone who is interest in working with issues that affect battered immigrant women in the state of Iowa.

Annual Advocate Conference

As a council, we will organize an Immigrant Women Advisory Council Annual Advocate Conference. The training will focus on issues facing battered immigrant women.
