CERTIFICATION

The Iowa Victim Advocate Certification Program establishes certification for individuals providing victim advocacy in the State of Iowa.
Victim Counselor training is required for any person providing direct service to survivors of domestic or sexual abuse at a primary-purpose crime victim centers. Twenty hours as outlined in Iowa Criminal Code 915.20A, is required as a minimum for any staff or volunteer providing direct client services. This designation provides victim/counselor privilege only if the advocate works/volunteers for a primary purpose crime victim center.
All paid staff and volunteers of ICADV member programs are eligible for certification by completing 40 hours of training, beyond the victim counselor training requirements. Certification is required for anyone providing pro se legal advocacy.
