Iowa Domestic Violence Advocate - Family Resources

Family Resources is looking for a strong, determined, passionate, innovative and trauma-informed Domestic Abuse Advocate. The Domestic Abuse Advocate will support and intercede on behalf of victims and survivors of domestic abuse in Scott, Muscatine, Louisa, Clinton, and Jackson Counties. They will provide education, prevention, and outreach programs to schools (preschool through post-secondary), community agencies/organizations/businesses, civic groups, religious groups, and other community partners. They will advocate for the survivor in multiple settings.  They will also function as part of the Domestic Abuse Comprehensive Services team, provide crisis intervention services, and adhere to program and agency policies.

Engaging Male Advocate - Family Resources

Family Resources has the rare opportunity for you to join our team with our open Engaging Males Advocate position. This position is responsible for: 

  • Provide outreach, advocacy, and support to male survivors of violent crimes as well as engage other males in providing peer and mentor support and awareness on the role males can play in reducing and ending violence.

  • Collaborate with the Elephant Club Coordinator with raising awareness and providing community outreach regarding domestic and sexual violence, teen and dating violence, human trafficking, child abuse, and other violent crimes and how these crimes impact boys and men as victims/survivors as well as how to provide support to boys and men to reduce their trauma as a result of violent crimes.

  • Collaborate in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley. There will be a special focus on males who identify as LGBTQIA, African American, and/or are involved in child welfare services due to these populations being under-served and/or having higher rates of victimization.

Legal Assistant - Monsoon Asian and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity

Monsoon Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity is a culturally-specific organization serving victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and gender-related homicide in Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities across Iowa. The agency has an exciting opportunity available to join their team as a Legal Assistant.

This full-time position will provide administrative support to contract attorneys, communicate with clients, prepare cases, organize legal workshops and clinics and help with advocacy services. The candidate should be committed to social and economic justice, and help build alliances with other service providers, community leaders and officials. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide administrative support to contract attorneys providing family law and immigration representation, such as scheduling, typing and filing of basic legal documents and correspondence, and coordinate legal services, including communication among clients, advocates and attorneys. 

  • Extend assistance to clients, including help with intake system, correspondence with victims, verbal and written interpretation/translation, legal advocacy and maintaining confidentiality. 

  • Perform clerical services, such as phone reception, client record maintenance, making and filing copies,
    and emailing/mailing. 

  • Establish, update and maintain files in an organized manner; monitor calendars; meet deadlines; document actions; and competently handle database and case management software under the supervision of
    contract attorneys. 

  • Coordinate and facilitate Know Your Rights workshops, legal clinics and similar forms of community outreach. 

  • Collaborate with other Monsoon staff and volunteers to meet the needs of victims/survivors. 

  • Attend staff meetings or ongoing trainings.

ICADV Volunteer Opportunities

Interpreters in the ICADV Legal Clinic 

The ICADV Legal Clinic seeks part-time, as-needed, unpaid volunteers fluent in Bosnian, French and Mandarin. As a volunteer, you will assist with oral and written communication with a survivor and written translation of applications, legal pleadings and supporting documentation for cases. We welcome volunteers with one-time or ongoing availability.
