WE COMMIT TO DO AND BE BETTER
George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. Tony McDade.

FOUR of the countless African American lives that have been lost as a result of white supremacy, rooted in generations of systemic, cultural and structural racism.

The Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement, Iowa Coalition for Collective Change, community leaders and the brave individuals who are marching across cities nationwide demanding justice and change for ongoing police brutality, racism and oppression against communities of color, specifically, Black and Brown people.

We know that all forms of violence and oppression are interconnected and create a system that directly impacts the ability for Black and Brown communities to stay safe. We acknowledge that our agency, as part of a broader white-centric victim rights movement, benefits from and enables oppressive systems to continue. We must DO and BE better in order to impact real transformation.

We Commit to:

-
Centering communities of color in the anti-violence movement and our work, ensuring the voices and leadership of people of color are foundational to adapting and creating new policy.
-
Do our part to interrupt and work towards eradicating all forms of oppression and violence against Black and
Brown people.
-
Continue educating ourselves, speaking out and interrupting white supremacy in all aspects of our day.
Now is the time to come together and emerge in a world that truly honors the value and dignity of people of color and the freedom for all of us to thrive.
